Governor Douglas Proclaims September as National Preparedness Month

Montpelier, Vt. – Governor Jim Douglas has proclaimed September to be “National Preparedness Month” in Vermont. Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, and schools. Governor Douglas Announces New Cheese Manufacturer Locating In Swanton

SWANTON, Vt. (September 1, 2010) – Governor Jim Douglas announced today that a new cheese manufacturing company will be locating in Swanton, creating up to 55 jobs over the next several years. Secretary of State Seeks Nominations for Centennial Nonprofit Awards

Montpelier, Vt. - Is your nonprofit a century old? If yes, then the Secretary of State is looking for you! Secretary Deb Markowitz is seeking applicants for the 2010 Vermont Centennial Nonprofit Awards program. This program honors nonprofits that have operated in Vermont for at least 100 years. Any nonprofit that has been in operation in Vermont for 100 years or more can participate in this awards program by filling out an application form. Read more

Chief Technology Officer Tom Evslin to Retire from State Government

Montpelier, Vt. (August 31, 2010) – Governor Jim Douglas announced today that Chief Technology Officer Tom Evslin will retire from state government on September 15. Evslin, 67, was recruited from retirement by Governor Douglas in March of 2009 to be Chief Recovery Officer to oversee Vermont’s use of stimulus funds and applications for competitive stimulus grants. When the temporary Office of Economic Stimulus and Recovery finished its job, Evslin was named Chief Technology Officer for the State and has been the Administration’s lead on Challenges for Change.Read more

Agreement Reached on Historic Land Exchange at Jay

WATERBURY – Over ten years in the making, the State of Vermont, the Green Mountain Club, and Jay Peak Resort have reached agreement on a major land exchange at Jay Peak. The parties are scheduled to close on the initial phase of the exchange on August 31 at a ceremony at Jay Peak Resort. When completed later this year, the land exchange will provide additional protection to the Long Trail, conserve important high elevation natural resources along the spine of the Green Mountains near Jay Peak, enhance outdoor recreation opportunities on Jay State Forest, and improve the economic viability of Jay Peak Resort.Read more
